I’ve been working with The AFA since 2006, initially as a consultant and then as Executive Director. I’ve consulted with non-profits over the past 15 years in the areas of strategy, leadership and communications. I was attracted to The AFA because I love families, in all their diverse forms, and working with an organization dedicated to helping people create families continues to be deeply meaningful. And I’m particularly proud of the fact that we’re an inclusive organization.

Director of Operations

I began my service with The AFA as a core volunteer in 1996 after struggling for four years with infertility. I joined The AFA two years later as a full time staff member taking on various functions and am currently responsible for the day-to-day operations and finances for the organization. Although I previously held a variety of positions in the banking and real estate industries, nothing compares to the joy I feel knowing that we help people achieve their dream of having a family. I am also the proud mom of my daughter Vanessa and son Alex.

I have been a patient advocate in the field of infertility for over 15 years.  As Program Director for the non profit American Fertility Association, I am known for my commitment to infertility prevention as well as to patient education. I am the proud mother of teenaged twins born through In Vitro Fertilization and a resident of Brooklyn, New York, where my children and I share residence with two rescue dogs.  In addition to my responsibilities with The American Fertility Association, I am the lead writer on Infertility & Miscarriage for the online newspaper, Examiner.com I am a member of the American Medical Writers Association, and can be reached at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

I am the Director of Development and a full-time employee of The American Fertility Association.  I joined The AFA in February of 2006, bringing with me seven years experience in the field of infertility, having worked at two reproductive clinics.  I handle The AFA’s support line, assist in the coordination of events and am responsible for the organization’s fundraising campaigns from start to finish.  I enjoy boating, camping and car shows.  I share these interests with my husband, Dan, and my daughter, Melissa.

Director of Communications

Merry Armentrout

I’m the newest member of The AFA, taking on the role of Communications Director in April 2010.  My experience in the fertility field began three years ago as a Reproductive Consultant for Ferring Pharmaceuticals.  This job is the perfect fit for me because I’m able to use my knowledge of infertility, coupled with my media background.  I was a reporter for the ABC affiliate in Des Moines, freelance writer for The Vermont Standard, and received my Master’s Degree in Journalism at Emerson College.  My goal is to make The AFA the first stop for patients, professionals and media outlets when looking for educational information and resources.
