Biography

Sara Barris is a clinical psychologist. Since 1988 she has been highly active in the field of reproductive health issues with an expertise in infertility and adoption   Dr. Barris has written and lectured extensively around the psychological and emotional variables surrounding these issues.

She has conducted many workshops in these areas as well. Dr. Barris serves as the co - director of Support Services for The American Fertility Association. In that capacity she has created and co-developed their national telephone coaching support groups. This involves leading groups, training and supervising mental health professionals.  Dr. Barris is a part of Dr. Martin Seligman’s team at the University of Pennsylvania helping to facilitate the Penn Resilience Prevention Program for children and adolescents. Sara Barris has a full time private practice in Forest Hills, New York .  She is a mother through birth and adoption.

Sara leads Support Groups for RESOLVE (Southwestern Region), has written articles for RESOLVE , lectured at Fall Symposiums, has been teleconference guest speaker (National level), and has setup & coordinated Speakers and topics for RESOLVE quarterly education meetings. She has been an expert witness in an infertility court case and a subject of live interviews on infertility at Anjionline.com, a women's health & well-being website.

Sara holds a Masters Degree in Psychology from The University of San Francisco, a B.S. in Psychology from Pitzer College of Claremont Colleges, and is a member of the California Association of Marriage, Family and Child Therapists (CAMFT), The American Fertility Association (The AFA), American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), and RESOLVE.

Dr. Stephanie Schacher is a clinical psychologist with over ten years of experience in the field.  She works with individuals and couples facing fertility issues, and has expertise in the emotional and psychological aspects of assisted reproduction and pregnancy loss.

She has published research on the phenomenology of gay parenting, and works with gay and lesbian clients seeking to build families.  Dr. Schacher works with individuals, couples, and groups, and brings not only her clinical training but personal experience with assisted reproduction to help guide and advise those embarking on this venture.  Previously affiliated wtih New York Presbysterian/Columbia University Medical Center, she is currently appointed to medical staff at The Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, CT.  She received her Masters from Columbia University and her Doctorate from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology in New York.

Dr. Marnella holds degrees in both Social Ecology from the University of California Irvine (with a specialization in human behavior) and Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. She is a member of the American, California and Orange County Psychological Associations as well as holding membership in the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.

She is a member of the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society and founding member of the Society of Assisted Reproductive Professionals. She is author of the “Marnella Parent Donor Comparison Scale” (MPDCS) used in comparing the cognitive and personality traits of ovum donors and prospective parents. Dr. Marnella is a licensed, practicing Clinical Psychologist. She has many years of experience in the fields of child and family counseling and assessment. She regularly mentors peers and interns on issues of evaluation, testing and assessment. Her interest in the field of Assisted Reproduction is the deeply held result of both personal and extensive professional experience. She actively provides her services to a many well known agencies, physicians and infertility clinics.
