Biography
Michael R. Soules, MD has been helping men and women build their families using assisted reproductive technologies for more than 30 years. The first IVF baby Dr. Soules helped bring into the world was born in 1985 [he started the IVF program at UW in 1984]. In 2004, he was one of four founding partners of Seattle Reproductive Medicine that has quickly become one of the nation's leading infertility treatment practices [now the largest fertility practice west of the Mississippi].

Having chosen the field of Ob/Gyn in 1972 because of the potential to help women with both acute and chronic conditions, Dr. Soules was a resident when the subspecialty of REI (Reproductive Endocrinology Infertility) was first established. At that time, an unproven infertility treatment called in vitro fertilization, or IVF, was first being tested. He saw fascinating breakthroughs on the horizon in terms of how reproductive endocrinology blends the art and science of medicine to meet the needs of patients, men and women, who before had virtually no successful alternatives for pregnancy.
Dr. Soules's earlier work while a professor at the University of Washington continues to impact family-building services that are available to today's fertility patients around the world. With several prestigious grants from the National Institutes of Health, he conducted much of the world's first research on ovarian reserve, a topic of particular interest to women wanting to conceive in their 30's and 40's.
Since those earlier days, his expertise has become widely called on by experts and patients alike, especially regarding reproductive aging, uterine anomalies, endometriosis, and corpus luteum function. As Director of the Fertility and Endocrine Center at the University of Washington for 24 years, Dr. Soules trained a number of today's leading fertility experts. Dr. Soules' influence has had a lasting effect on the amount of fertility information now available to health care consumers. A past-president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, he developed and led the international "Prevention of Infertility" public health campaign.
Michael Soules, MD is repeatedly listed among Seattle Magazine's "Best Doctors" and "Top Doctors" publications, "Best Doctors in America", "The 1000 Best Doctors in America", and Town and Country Magazine's "Outstanding Medical Specialists". Dr. Soules holds a medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and did his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado. He also completed a Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Duke University and is board-certified in both OB-GYN and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
