Biography

 

Joann Paley Galst is a founding member of the American Fertility Association and a former member of the Board of Directors. She is currently the Co-director of AFA Support Services and Chair of the AFA Mental Health Advisory Council. She is also a past Chair of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine Mental Health Professional Group.

Dr. Galst received her doctorate at Columbia University Teachers College, receiving a National Institute of Mental Health Graduate Fellowship, and obtained her undergraduate education at the University of Wisconsin where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She has taught at both the college and graduate school levels and worked as the staff psychologist at the Fertility Research Foundation. She is a licensed psychologist in New York with over 20 years of experience specializing in mind-body medicine and reproductive health issues, including infertility, pregnancy loss, and pregnancy and parenting after infertility and third party reproduction.

Biography

Judith Greenwald, MSW, LCSW, is the fertility counselor and psychotherapist for the Continuum Reproductive Center. She talks with individuals and couples, helping them deal with the life crisis of infertility, and the emotional roller coaster that they may be going through.

Judith Greenwald, MSW, LCSW, is a board-certified diplomate in clinical social work, a professional member of the American Fertility Association, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the National Association of Social Work, and the American Association for Psychoanalytic Clinical Social Work. After graduating with a Master’s of Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work, Ms. Greenwald worked for 14 years at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center where she was a social worker, supervisor and assistant director of social work. Her areas of specialization have included women’s health, male fertility, OB/GYN, teen pregnancy, and adult and child psychiatry. She also developed a program for parents or other caregivers who have difficulty with bonding and attachment to their children from birth to four years old.

Prior to being a social worker, Ms. Greenwald was a medical journalist for Medical World News, a weekly news magazine for doctors that covered all areas of medicine. She attended the annual meetings of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, where she wrote articles specializing in women’s health, including birth control, pregnancy, gynecologic oncology, endometriosis, postpartum depression and menopause. She has also written women’s interest articles published in Harper’s Bazaar and Today’s Health.

For the last 30 years, Ms. Greenwald has been in full-time private practice as a fertility counselor and psychotherapist working with individuals and couples, helping them cope with the emotional roller coaster encountered by many people during infertility treatments. Fifteen years ago, she received her Certificate in Psychoanalysis from the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis.

Judith Kottick, LCSW is a recognized expert in the field of reproductive counseling. She developed the psychological services components at the Institute of Reproductive Medicine and Sciences at St. Barnabas Medical Center and at Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey.

Gestational carrier and egg donor arrangements are particular areas of interest and are frequently the topics of symposiums and workshops she is invited to give in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Serving as a consultant to numerous infertility programs throughout the tri-state area, Judith currently maintains a private practice in Montclair, New Jersey. She draws upon her postgraduate training as a psychotherapist and in behavioral medicine from the Mind/Body Institute at Harvard Medical School to provide a personalized approach to helping people cope with the challenges of fertility treatment, pregnancy loss, adoption, and parenting. Involved as a mentor for Resolve Northeast region and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Judith has written numerous articles for professional organizations, and has also contributed a chapter to the book “Frozen Dreams.”

Dr. Bindeman graduated from George Washington University with a doctorate in clinical psychology. Starting in graduate school, she developed an interest in identity formation across the life span. She has worked in a variety of settings including outpatient mental health, private practices, schools, and Universities.

She has served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Maryland Psychological Association since 2008, she was elected to the Education Committee of the Mental Health Professional Group of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in 2013, and is a member of The American Psychological Association, RESOLVE, The American Society of Reproductive Medicine, and The American Fertility Association.  Her private practice, Integrative Therapy of Greater Washington was founded in 2007 with Nanci Brown, LCSW-C and is located in Rockville, Maryland.

In addition to her focus on reproductive psychology, Dr. Bindeman has taught at several universities including: Marymount, Johns Hopkins, and Loyola.

She provides professional consultation, delivers workshops, gives community talks, and writes. Dr. Bindeman is currently writing a book and maintains several blogs focused on parenting and reproduction.
