Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon welcomed a
baby girl and boy on Saturday, their third wedding
anniversary.
"My wife just gave me the most incredible anniversary
gift ever in life," Cannon tweeted on Saturday. "I won't
ever be able to top this!"
Carey's representative Cindi Berger confirmed to The
Associated Press that the 41-year-old singer gave
birth at 12:07 p.m. ET at an undisclosed Los Angeles
hospital. The baby girl was born first, weighing 5
pounds 3 ounces, and was 18 inches long; the baby
boy was 5 pounds 6 ounces, and was 19 inches.
Berger also told the AP that Cannon, 30, drove Carey
to the hospital in their Rolls-Royce Phantom, and was
so nervous that he went to the wrong department in
the hospital, needing to be led to the maternity ward
by hospital staff. The new mom and dad listened to
Carey's 2005 hit "We Belong Together" after the
children were born.
In October 2010, Carey confirmed her pregnancy in
an "Access Hollywood" interview, revealing that part
of the reason she and Cannon initially kept her
pregnancy a secret is because she had a miscarriage
two years ago.
"It kind of shook us both and took us into a place that
was really dark and difficult," Carey said. "When that
happened ... I wasn't able to even talk to anybody
about it. That was not easy."
Carey and Cannon met during a video shoot for her
single "Bye, Bye" and were married in 2008 at
Windermere Island in the Bahamas.
Did the couple plan for the birth to coincide with
their anniversary? No, Cindi Berger told People.
"No, not even Mariah could plan that.
