The Average Teenager

November 3, 2008 - Monday
Posted by Lisa

I wouldn’t want anyone to get the impression that I’m an out of the ordinary high school teenager because of my involvement with fertility, or even because of my personal history.  Outside of my involvement with the AFA, I’m the typical high school student enjoying the time of my life.  So how about a brief run-down of my week?  I think it’s acceptable to step away from the A.R.T project to let you all know a little more about what else I am about these days.

I could not have picked a better week to sum up who I am than this week.  On Monday, I presented my graduation project before the judges at Southeast Raleigh High.  Thankfully, I passed, but I have to say, I was not terribly worried.  Also on Monday, our basketball teams’ tryouts began.  I’m a four year Academic-All Conference Athlete, and a two year starter at the shooting guard position.  All school-year, three days a week, I stayed and worked out with one of the other captains Tyler Johnson, another senior.  Basketball season makes school go by a lot faster for all of the players, and makes school that much more fun.  So all week, monday to friday, three to six, I was conditioning and getting some shots up.

On Wednesday night, I spoke with Mr. Brian Armentrout, the communication director of the AFA about making a video for the websites homepage.  I spoke with some of the students in the broadcasting class, and will be shooting the video sometime next week - so make sure you visit the website in the coming weeks!

And of course, Halloween rolled around on Friday.  I was sore, I was tired, but it was Friday, and I was ready for the weekend.  Following tryouts, me, my girlfriend, and another couple went out to eat, and came back to my house where my parents had some movies, and an abundance of left-over candy ready.  Eventually, everyone went home and the night came to a close, along with my week.  It’s the weekend now, and I plan to enjoy what’s left of it.

So that’s about it.  Average? I know.  High School has been the time of my life thus far, and especially senior year.  To incorporate SOME type of fertility issue with my week, the argument that children resulting from A.R.T are more likely to be socially impaired, and have a feeling of “distance” from the rest of society is ridiculous.  I’m the average teenager with an above average take on life, and I enjoy it.

Thanks for your time,

John Taylor
