For Men Only: The Male Journey to Family

Reproductive, infertility, and alternative family building support services are typically focused on women (the child bearer) and/or the couple entity. There tends to be relatively less recognition and support for men and their unique needs as they grapple with the personal and relationship stresses posed by these family building challenges. This phone-based support group will offer men the opportunity to connect with other guys who are traveling this rocky road, and to explore strategies for coping personally and within the context of their committed relationship, with the assistance and input of an AFA support group leader. This group is open to all men whose lives and committed relationships are affected by infertility issues within the couple (female factor, male factor, or unexplained infertility), and will be anonymous (first names only).

Bob Bamman, LCSW is a therapist and a professional member of the American Fertility Association – Mental Health group. He has 20 years of experience assisting individuals and couples in navigating infertility and alternative family building issues. He is also an adoptive father. Bob provides private infertility/adoption counseling and coaching services, conducts workshops addressing the adoption process and the unique aspects of adoptive parenting, and provides New York State mandated pre-adoption Homestudies. He maintains a private practice located in mid-Manhattan (34th St.) working with men, women, couples, and adoptive families.

AFA Coaching Groups:

AFA conference call coaching groups provide a convenient way for you to take part in a supportive and educational group experience from the comfort of your home or work place. These groups meet for one hour via conference call. All groups are led by licensed mental health professionals with an expertise and often personal experience in infertility treatment and/or adoption.

The mission of The American Fertility Association is to continue to provide the most comprehensive information on family building, particularly for people facing infertility. In addition to working with people trying to conceive or trying to adopt, The AFA is focusing on infertility prevention, male reproductive health, and outreach to the lesbian and gay community.
