jneencruz Hi, I am 34 yrs old, I tried 2 cycles of IVF 2 years ago. THe first cycle they retrieved 11 eggs, 10 were viable, only 2 fertilzed and none implanted. Second time, 16 eggs retrieved, 11 viable and only 3 were fertilized, none implanted. is there anything to help the quality of eggs or what would you do differently than a standard ivf cycle.
moesbaby I am 42.5, highest FSH level of 17 lowest 5, no male factor, is co-culture a waste of time for us.
cathiedalton i was on clomid for 2 months...follistum for 3...last one didn t ovulate till day 23
ujfdkmyl I am 42 and did the clomid challenge test...day 3 was 7.5 and day 10 was 8.2 do you think I am a good canidate for ivf
cathiedalton using 450 cc
twingirls I am currently on my 3rd IVF cycle. I am 39 years old and have been undergoing fertility treatment for almost 2 years. Have had a fair number of eggs retrieved but not a whole lot fertilize normally. Have had karotype testing. Could I need a change in protocol?
cathiedalton only had 3 eggs
mary Hi Dr -- , We've tried ivf 4xs, last attempt transferred 4 "good" embryos, no pregancy. they tell me it's lack of protein in my utereus . . . any knowledge on this?

Corey_Whelan nuh uh, he's trying and yes, if this doesn't work out we will re-schedule the same chat very quickly
jneencruz we keep asking questions but there is no one to answer them, rescheduling would be a good idea

Corey_Whelan I'm in Brooklyn NY, does everyone like my accent?

JADE0199 Corey, I used to live in Brooklyn!

twingirls I have heard lots of good things about Cornell -just tough from CT ::sad
jneencruz i do know someone who went to the one in englewood with excellent results, she is about to have baby number 2 through them and she had severe endrometriosis
Corey_Whelan Howdy! I think that we should start again, slowly -
Corey_Whelan Dr. Kreiner is back - Estelle, can you retype your first question, let's start there
jneencruz my obgyn has recommended that i go there. i have yet to make an appointment with them, i am changing as well, but because i didn't get results and my insurance will only pay for so much
estelle61 My doc is based in the city, but I'm getting monitoring in NJ. The doc told me that they are higher rated than Cornell for women over 35, and that in h is opinion they have a better lab.Is your doc in NJ?
Corey_Whelan ok, guys, since the doctor is back, let's limit our typing for awhile to questions for him
Corey_Whelan please
Corey_Whelan Estelle, do you want to start?
JADE0199 not sure where Kensington is?
JADE0199 I am uncertain as to exactly what this topic is? My email said DOES AGE EFFECT EMBRYO QUALITY? I have lots of questions re: age, FSH, IVF....etc
jneencruz yes englewood as well
irene Hello doc can you please explain how obesity and age can affect egg quality
Corey_Whelan that's right Jade
twingirls Dr Kreiner,
jneencruz they recommended i see dr. sloey, i am unsure if the spelling is correct
estelle61 My question is I am 45 and having first IVF. I had two unsuccessful IUIs, but wanted to know if there are any tips I can get? I've had regular cycles, and good gyno health, plus my husband is in his 30s. Any tips?
Stacie I have had six miscarriages over the last three years... two resulting from natural pregnancies, one from IUI, and three from IVF. My FSH is 12.3 and I am 34. We are considering moving on to donor eggs using my sister. Any other suggestions?
mary i'm 40, 4ivf attempts, they tell me it's lack of protein in my uterus . . any ideas?
JADE0199 my question is how can FSH determine egg quality vs. egg reserve?
twingirls I am 39 and on my 3rd IVF cycle. I have a fair number of eggs retrieved but not many fertilize (2 the 1st cycle and 3 the 2nd). I have had karotype testing due to a miscarriage (conceived naturally). Could this be an issue with the protocol that is being used?
geri Is the dr still here?
jneencruz i am 34, had two ivf cycles. the first retrieved 11 eggs, 10 viable, only 2 fertilized, none implanted. second cycle 16 retrieved, 11 viable, only 3 fertilized, none implanted. my question is there anything you would suggest doing differently from a normal ivf cycle?
Corey_Whelan oh well. I'm giving it a few more minutes and then I think we have to cry uncle. Please don't worry, we will re-schedule this topic very soon. I'm sorry all. Ya win some, ya lose some
JADE0199 my FSH is 6.1 on Day 3. Am 36, 37 in 1m2w. Had 3 early m/c's and a chemical pg, all conceived naturally. Did 1 IVF cycle to do PGD, but cancelled PGD b/c we only had 4 embies on Day 2 that were all 2 cell.
estelle61 jneencruz: My doctor in the city is Dr. Mukjarghee (sp)
geri What happened?
Corey_Whelan It doesn't seem to be working out - technical issues for sure.
Pahjawk left.
Corey_Whelan we can hang out though
SMStoffa have any of you heard of the "Infertility Cure" by Dr. Radine Lewis?
geri that's odd - the rest of us are on
estelle61 No. What is the cure?
moesbaby Awesome book
jneencruz i would love to know the cure
Corey_Whelan Randine gave a chat about a month ago. You can look up her transcript if you like
jneencruz great
moesbaby She uses Traditional Chinese medicine
SMStoffa It's all about getting back to good health using yoga, healthy eating and chinese acupuncture
jneencruz i was thinking about trying it but i don't know anyone who has done it and am leary about it
SMStoffa It's geared towards older ladies like us with high FSH. It gives me some hope.
estelle61 I am nervous about acupuncture
Corey_Whelan You can also check out the yoga for fertility tape that Brenda Strong moderates
twingirls I used accupuncture with my last IVF cycle ::sad
jneencruz was it bad?
estelle61 Did it help?
jneencruz i figure if i can poke myself a couple of times a day, accupuncture can't be all that bad
twingirls It really was painless but it was another one of those things that gave me high hopes only to let me down when I got the results
cathiedalton left.
luna joined.
SMStoffa Acupuncture does not hurt. It has made my cycles come back very regularly.
jneencruz and it can be expensive
Corey_Whelan twingirls, do you have twin girls?
jneencruz i have been lucky and my insurance has covered almost everything
mary I wish had done accupunture during my cycles. If nothing else, it helps relax your body
irene Iam SO SORRY twin girls
twingirls yeah, thta was part of the issue too -it was pricey!
twingirls No, I would just love twin girls, Corey! One can dream.....
Corey_Whelan got it.
Corey_Whelan I believe in the power of dreams.
estelle61 Does anyone do visualizations?
jneencruz estelle61: have you gone to the clinic in nj
Stacie Has anyone considered the use of donor eggs?
SMStoffa positive thinking (like the Secret) and prayers cannot hurt
Corey_Whelan I remember my whole life whenever my mom or I cracked open an egg and got a double yolk, we would call each other up
irene what is that
estelle61 Not yet. I start next month.
moesbaby Has anyone here used Fertility blend? If so did you notice any changes?
twingirls You know, they say if you stop wanting so much, thats when things actually happen - but its SO hard when it comes to all of this stuff.
kreiner left.
jneencruz hey we might run into each other there, i am probably going to try to go next month
estelle61 I haven't met the docs there yet, since I have doc in NY at RMA of NY. But since I work close to monitoring in NJ, its easier for me to do it that way.
irene left.
Corey_Whelan A therapist who did a chat recently said that women are often defensively pessimistic, we shield ourselves from wanting too much by being negative
estelle61 Is fertility blend an herb?
jneencruz how do you stop wanting? let me know b/c that is all i can think about and everyone around me is turning up pregnant
mary twingirls, don't give up on your dream. It's in your heart for a reason.
JADE0199 I am trying acupuncture for the first time for my next cycle.
Corey_Whelan why should y ou stop wanting? I don't think that lying to yourself is the key to conception!
luna has amyone tried acupuncture for recurrent miscarriages?
twingirls Believe me, I am with ya J - it is ALL consuming.
twingirls I dpjmj
Stacie left.
geri Would anyone try donor eggs or do you know someone who has successfully?
Corey_Whelan You want a baby, and it's hard that it's not happening and it sucks. But you still want it and you have to figure out what to do with that
estelle61 My friend did accupuncture and an IUI and got pregnant and delivered a boy three months ago. She is 37
Corey_Whelan Geri, donor egg is often very successful.
SMStoffa What is IUI?
Stacie joined.
moesbaby It's Vitex (herb), vitamin B's, and some minerals
Corey_Whelan SMS - Intrauterine Insemination
Stacie left.
geri Corey, is there a specific place to go to - I'm new to this
SMStoffa thanks
jneencruz i have considered donor but haven't investigated it further, i guess i am not sure how i feel about it
frances1 I thought that we were going to get some advice from the dr regarding how to increase our odds of ivf...?
twingirls oops -I don't think you should stop wanting, but sometimes if you are more accepting, I think its possible that 'good things" can happen. I just haven't gotten there yet.....You know, you hear lots of women decide to adopt and then get pregnant!
JADE0199 I'm lucky, my insurance covers some of it, discounted rate
JADE0199 I'm doing everything I can to help my next IVF cycle (#2). We are using donor eggs though. Anyoone else going donor?
JADE0199 Tired of all the disappointments and losses.
JADE0199 Stacie - I am using donor eggs for my next IVF CYCLE in Sept.
JADE0199 I know what you mean jneen
JADE0199 I don't know anyone personally that used donor but I read alot of chat groups that there is alot of success out there.
estelle61 Intra uterine insemination. When sperm is inserted manually into you by a doc.
JADE0199 Donor success rate is over 50% at most clinics.
Corey_Whelan for donor egg? Tons of places. You should email Lisa V at my office and she will give you a gazillion referrals - lisav@theafa.org
estelle61 What insurance covers this. We have blue cross, and it is not covering infertility treatments.
geri thanks very much
JADE0199 Thanks Corey. We have already chosen a donor and our cycle is scheduled for Sept.
JADE0199 Provided all the tests come out okay.
Corey_Whelan Estelle, that's a tough one. It counts on the state that you are in, your company, etc. Donor is rarely, I mean very rarely, covered
estelle61 What about IVF.
Corey_Whelan Good luck Jade. Good luck to all of you
mary Jade . . how do you go about chosing a donor?
twingirls I was just going to say, it can get very expensive.
jneencruz i have horizon blue cross blue shield and they are covering almost everything
JADE0199 ours is not covered. my last IVF was covered but only one cycle. we are paying out of pocket for the cycle but the testing and meds are covered.
jneencruz i don't know if they cover donor
cgwf left.
estelle61 My husband's company specifically requested blue cross not cover infertility treatments. Doesn't that suck?
shaymer01 joined.
JADE0199 you can find a donor thru your clinic or go thru an agency. your dr can refer you agencies they like to work with, thats what mine did
jneencruz wow, it stinks, you can't get pregnant and then you are willing to try everything and it will cost you everything you have and more
estelle61 Caremark covers most of the meds.
twingirls yeah, it really is unfair
lucia Hi again did the doc every come back
bubbles828 joined.
mary do they try to match looks ?
jneencruz no the doctor is not in
JADE0199 Its costing us about $28K for a donor cycle but we are not sharing any of her eggs. hopefully we have frozens for future cycle(s)
jneencruz we are just chatting
lucia thanks
lucia oh ok
estelle61 It was recommended to me that we freeze embryos, so that avoids another egg retrieval, so we agreed to do that as well.
jneencruz well if it is that much i am not going to be able to afford that. we have been socking away money for adoption
karen left.
estelle61 I know someone who tried to get pregnant and adopted, and then got pregnant naturally, so there is something to be said for just relaxing.
geri Looked into international adoption with china and the wait is now 2, 2.5 years
jneencruz it seems to take forever though, we are not rockefellers, we just want a baby so our 9 year old can have a sibling
twingirls you guys sound like you have plans at least ! I haven't thought about anything beyond IVF
frances1 I have to use a gestational carrier and tried IVF with own eggs with no luck. A donor would add a lot of expense. How do we know that the donor profile is accurate?
Corey_Whelan Geri, there are countries with a much shorter wait time
geri which ones?
estelle61 Do any of you belong to support groups? I find that is the thing that I'm craving most?
jneencruz we are set on guatamala, which ranges $25-35,000 and the wait is less, plus my husband is hispanic
Corey_Whelan If you need agency referrals too, you can get that through us.
twingirls And we can' t use meds Estelle -LOL
ujfdkmyl corey do you know anything about adoption in Thailand
twingirls I am with you on the support group thing!!
Corey_Whelan jneencruz, if you want Guatemala you'd better hurry, I don't think they will stay open forever
geri I heard china was the best to go through - I hear there are issues with other counrtires
twingirls Didn't China just change their rules? Age and Weight restrictions?
SMStoffa I heard that Guatemala was stopping US adoptions for a while. Is this true?
mary Has anyone looked into adopting in the US? is it harder?
geri yes, they did change some rules with weight , age I am not sure
Corey_Whelan All of you who are interested in adoption, go back and read the transcript from Sam Pitkowsky's chat. And yes, China did change the rules and yes, Guatemala is having issues because they are not following the Hague Compact
Corey_Whelan US adoption is NOT harder, it is different. Not harder
jneencruz the issues are alwasy going on, it goes from one country to another. they closed guat. a while back and then reopened it. i thought about the US but am afraid the mother will come back for her child and I can't do that to my daughter, never mind to myself or my husband
lkimball joined.
estelle61 Tomorrow night is a chat support group for "older" women. However, I don't feel old, I just try to think of it that my eggs have been "resting up" for a while.smile
Corey_Whelan ok, now listen up.
geri I agree - lots of horror stories with the us
Corey_Whelan Jneencruz, do I have your attention? This is Important
Corey_Whelan How many planes take off every day? 30,000? And how many crash?
Corey_Whelan Do the 30,000 planes make the news? No

Corey_Whelan That is the way it is with adoption. There are approx. 35,000 adoptions annually. You know how many get contested? Around 12
lucia left.
bubbles828 left.
Corey_Whelan I promise. That scenario does not happen often
JADE0199 so that's good about adoption, right?
mary I too am afraid the child's mother would change her mind. That would be most painful for me.
twingirls Thanks for putting it into perspective Corey- it is scary to think about.
JADE0199 I agree
Corey_Whelan Birth moms change their minds often in the hospital, absolutely. But once the adoption goes through, they rarely do and you know why? Because they love their babies and want the best for them.
jneencruz i just feel with the out of country adoption it is less likely and the wait is shorter, once you are ready, with guat. anyway
frances1 So, you are saying that us adoption is a good option. i would love it as you can get an infant right from the hospital. Do you recommend open or closed adoption.
Corey_Whelan yup, it's scary, just like everything else about parenthood!!!
lucia joined.
Corey_Whelan open or closed Frances, is a personal choice
twingirls The thought of possibly having to go through all of that after all of this heartache -ugh!
jneencruz i appreciate you putting it like that, it is something to think about
Corey_Whelan yup, heartache sucks big time
geri I didn'tt think they did closed adoption anymore
Corey_Whelan Geri, it is still done but much rarer than it was
twingirls LOL -I hear the Brooklyn accent ::tongue
frances1 Maybe it's not closed, but I think it's called private...?
geri Does anyone have contacts for that?
Corey_Whelan Good listener!
Corey_Whelan private adoption refers to an adoption with an attorney, not an agency, that's all. Not open or closed
sunnydayz left.
frances1 I see. Thank you.
Corey_Whelan We do, at the AFA. We can give you all the contacts that you need.
jneencruz thank you ladies. it was nice to talk with people who understand what i am feeling. i will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers and i wish you success and lots and lots of babies!!!

shaymer01 Corey, will this topic/speaker be rescheduled?
jneencruz bye

frances1 It's scary because more thought has to be put into this than just getting pregnant. Sometimes our minds just take over and we think to much. I guess I should have more trust in the outcome not fear
Corey_Whelan no, don't get tougher. You're terrific as is. You ALL are. And I have to say good night - and I will be thinking of all of you and I hope SO MUCH HAPPINESS comes to you all. I mean it so much.

twingirls You're right but my doc keeps telling me he is sure the reason why we are not having success is because of "embryo quality" so its hard not to think about being old. ::sad
mary no pregancy, i had 2 abnormal eggs out of the 3cycles. they tell me my problem is lack of protein development in my uterus
luna how did they diagnose the protein deficiency?
mary my doc just explained "embryo quality" . . . the right protocol/medication can help develop good quality eggs . . . the wrong meds can affect all your eggs

twingirls hmmm...thats what I wanted to ask the doc. We did the same protocol twice and this time he switched it up. My fingers are crossed. I just cannot accept that its "too late" for me. But, I have to say, the funds are dwindling.
mary scrape of my uterus, very painful. research done out of Yale. now my doc thinks adding lutein to a protocol could achieve positive results . . .??
luna thanks for the info...I thought luteinw as for eye health
mary funds . . i know what you mean. we've had to pay 3 ivf attempts. insurance didn't cover but one.
twingirls Yikes, where do you live Mary?
mary atlanta
luna does anyone know if you can purchase suplemental insurance to cover ivf?
twingirls This is my last try - anymore and its out of pocket. I really need to decide when to quit but I hate entertaining that thought as well.
luna I have aetna and they will not cover ivf, so I know they won't cover PGD
mary twingirls . . consider accupunture
twingirls I tried it with my last cycle ::sad
twingirls I don't think I could afford to do it again - it was around $500
luna I hate that it all comes down to money
twingirls Yeah, its so wrong. Its not like I am having cosmetic surgery!
luna Our savings have dwindled through this process and now we are considering adoption with what is left of our funds
mary maybe try to find another that will reduce treatment costs.

twingirls There are just too many things to think/worry about- we could drive ourselves crazy.
luna It is hard to keep ones sanity sometimes, especially when everyone around you is pregnant or having babies
mary what is your email . . . if you'd like I'll ask my accupuncturist if he has a contact in your city. he's very good and inexpensive, he teaches at one the schools in atlanta
twingirls I know -thats the worst. I just can't be happy for them anymore and thats sad
luna My sis is pregnant with baby #2 and so is my best friend
luna the worst is that I just lost twins with my last miscarriage and I have been avoiding my pregnant freinds for over month now
twingirls I feel for you, believe me. I really haven't opened up about this whole struggle to too many people so that makes it tough as well.
mary the worst for me is no one in my family knows what i've gone through . . .they keep asking why im not pregant!
luna It's hard to because sometimes people say the most insensitive things
twingirls Well ladies, I have to go - I have a dr's appt @ 7 am tomorrow -fun fun!
twingirls It was nice talking to you!!! Maybe we'll run into each other again!
luna have a good night twingirls we are all rooting for you
twingirls Good luck to both of you girls, Mary and Luna!
mary good luck to al l of you::smile

luna mary--how long have you been trying?
MSimon left.
mary i've rested for one year. 4 attempts in approx. 1yr 1/2
luna I deal with many of the same. Lots of family members asking so when are you having a baby? I alsways had a good excuse, "when I finsih my master's or when we buy a house" well all that is accomplished and I have run out of excuses
mary my 1st attempt was a total trial. i've come to the conclusion docs are like mechanics, it's just more costly
luna my immediate family know of my miscarriages but it is not something I share with many. I feel like a failure as a woman sometimes, defective some how
luna I had to switch my RE because the first one had little if any compassion
mary ugh, don't. you're not defective, you just haven't found what works with your body.
luna thanks for the sentiment and I know you understand.
luna You are very courageous
mary i just feel God put this dream in our hearts for a reason. now we have to be patient and let it happen . . . some days i just don't know how so i allow myselft to cry and then move on
luna that is a very healthy attitude. I have cried any tears and have even questioned my faith but it is an emotional roller coaster
mary he made us very strong, i've learned i have to relinquish. i too have questioned God MANY times, but that's not the way. be still and know that i am God .. . . that's what I keep telling myselft. I'll keep you in prayer.
luna I'm going to go but thanks for your positive words. Best of luck to you. ::biggrin
mary have a good evening.
