pfd	it seemed to have gone well. I responded well to the meds. I had a good number of mature eggs and transferred three high quality embryos. So except for the outcome, the experience was positive (I think those are good signs)

Lisa_Rosenthal	sblm, that is on a case by case basis, depending on maternal age, embryo quality and many other factors. ASRM guidelines strongly suggest no more than 2 in most situations. If you would like to share more of your specifics, we can chat.

sblm	My doctor did the ICSI, it was successful as far as fertolizing my eggs.
KRIS10E	were the injectables more than regular inv- i am so nervous! did you get preggo?
pfd	my doctor recommends assisted hatching routinely. is that common practice?
JenniferL	"going broke" is definatly something we are very scared of. I just don't know if I could stop if the first try didn't work. But the prospect of that much money being involved and it not working would completely break my heart.
julie71	My husband and I are currently going thru our 1st cycle we have had 2 failed transfers. We are using our savings to get thru. Most of my meds however for the initial were given to me by my clinic which saved us several hundreds of dollars. ALso, you can claim some of this on your tax return.
KRIS10E	NErvous about injections- anyone in here have advice- are they really that bad to give yourself?

pfd	they arent bad at all. it was really easy adn manageable.

JenniferL	Wow SK, I was told around 6,000US per try by my ob/gyn. But he tends to be very off when it comes to accuracy of how much certain treatments cost. So I have a funny feeling it will be much more than that.
kwhite	JenniferL....yes it is a loan that you make monthly payments on. We will be borrowing approx. $20,000 which will cover 2 fresh cycles and 2 FET and some meds. Payments can be made over 5 years i think

Lisa_Rosenthal	The needles are scarier than they look. Of course, it did take me counting to 10, ten thousand times to stick myself- that amounts to about 10 minutes. and then it was really fine.
julie71	Mine was not painful at all. They gave me a mild sedation. When it was over I didn't think they had done anything. You just have to keep yourself relaxed and think positive

SK	here is $5,000 plus obviously the time u have any consultation, I know this doctor has done for non residents invitro
pfd	the egg retrieval was not so bad and I was sick with at 102 feverso I think I can say that.
pfd	LIsa, Lori , do you think being sick the week of my ER/ET had anything to do with the outcome? is there any research?

Lori_Masi AFA_Patient_Advocate	I had abad cough once and was sure I would cough out the embryos but I did get pregant - my problem is staying pregnant!

Lisa_Rosenthal	pfd, there has been so much research- your being sick, mildly- not the rip roaring flu with a 105 fever- will NOT DO ANYTHING!!
triciaivf1	Where is the doctor?
JenniferL	See I was suprised that my ob/gyn didn't even suggest trying IUI. He went straight to talking about IVF. I have only been on 4 cycles of clomid and we also have male factor. But IUI would be MY next choice.
KRIS10E	jennifer - did the inv work for you?
Lisa_Rosenthal	tricia, good question, Dr. Leondires is supposed to be here. Sorry he's not, but I'm having a great time. If you have medical questions that you really need answered, please post on our message boards, our doctors answer individual questions every single day.
sblm	Is IUI a n option for someone with tube problems?
SK	well, Jenn, my doctor first we run all the test, but he told me to go first for the IUI and after that we'll see

sblm	Does anyone have any issues with scar tissue. I don't know whether or not that is a serious factor for not having a positive IVF cycle
JenniferL	That's what I think we will try next. I might have to find a new dr if my current one does not agree.

Lisa_Rosenthal	April, what most of the most respected folks in the field say is that even one high fsh can indicate a serious ovarian reserve problem
KRIS10E	april- is your fsh high or elevated?
Lori_Masi AFA_Patient_Advocate	The only thing I have not done is the actual procedure myself - ask away!
Lisa_Rosenthal	Ovarian reserve really reflects your ovum's age as opposed to your birth age, if that makes any sense.
April	My FSH has ranged from 3.6 to 27 over the last year

April	do you think it won't be worth trying for another lisa?
Lisa_Rosenthal	April, I would definitely try if I were you, of course. How did you conceive this one?
April	I think this pregnancy is a bit of miracle--I surprised both myself and my docs by getting pregnant on my first IVF

JenniferL	This may be a dumb question, but with IUI can only a RE do that? Or can my normal gyn do it?
Lori_Masi AFA_Patient_Advocate	Unless by some miracle I have a new baby!
pfd	Lori, are you going through this currently? If so how do you have the energy to give so much to all of us?
April	Jennifer, I would go to an RE for IUI because they have the expertise to time it right, and also to do the sperm preparation and wash
Lisa_Rosenthal	Jennfer, with all my heart, this is the best advice I can ever give you. Stick with your RE.
KRIS10E	how long does it usually take for the whole inf process?
SK	well , Jenn the doctor that did my IUi, he is an Ob/Gyn specialize in infertility

JenniferL	Thanks April..the reason I ask is that my insur. does not cover any thing other than diagnostic tests(ultrasounds, bloodwork) And they do not cover RE appts. I have yet to be referred to one for that main reason.

April	SK, I would go to a specialist, an RE, the expert on infertility--the chance at having a baby is something you don't want to mess with. Well, if you don't have coverage for an RE, you could do some IUI's with the OB. But I would still suggest moving onto an RE sooner rather than later, depending on your age
JenniferL	Currently my ob/gyn does specialize in infertility. That is the main (and only) reason I go to him. I personally don't "click" with him and would prefer another dr. But thank you for the advice. Maybe I can work something out with $$ to allow me to proceed with an RE.

Lisa_Rosenthal	So, you all know that we do these online sessions once a week, you know that we have wonderful message boards that are moderated by physicians, and message boards that are just for us to hang out and chat on, and the conference. What else can the AFA do for you all?
pfd	What do you think of assisted hatching and what about doctors that put you on their schedule with BCP's instead of going by your cycle? Is there a difference?
Lori_Masi AFA_Patient_Advocate	At 26 you have some time - but if you don't conceive in 1 year you need to move on to an RE and more advance treatment
Lisa_Rosenthal	JenniferL, that is unacceptable. I was there when I was 25. If you haven't conceived within a certain amount of time, you deserve wonderful, professional treatment.
April	if you are 26, you have some time and an excellent chance of getting pregnant
SK	Jenn, its better if you get the right Doc. to hear properly what ur saying to him
sblm	I agree with SK Jennifer. That is one of the reasons why I left my previous doctor.
pfd	If I stop my Progesterone in Oil tonight, does anyone know how long til I should expect my period? I am spotting alittle. Anyone with experience?

JenniferL	Thanks Lisa (and everyone) so far we have been ttc since april 2003. Finally in December my ob/gyn put me on 50mg of clomid. Then after that didn't work, and I begged a lot, he increased the dose to 100mg this cycle. But after 50mg didnt work he kept suggesting IVF. Which I thought was a little too quick, since we had not even tried a higher dose of clomid
Lisa_Rosenthal	pfd, I can't remember, anyone else know?
Lori_Masi AFA_Patient_Advocate	I think you will get your period in 1-2 weeks
pfd	anyone know anythign about this SHLAG technique of identifying embryos more likely to implant?
April	Jennifer, had you had any more of a work up to figure out why you are not getting pregnant? Did you have an HSG done?
April	going from clomid to IVF at 26 sounds a little extreme to me
Lisa_Rosenthal	Anyone having issues with who to share your fertility issues with?
Lori_Masi AFA_Patient_Advocate	Jennifer i don't reccomend more than 3-6 cycles of clomid
JenniferL	So far the only thing I have had done was blood work, and external u/s, and an internal u/s. Pretty much all right before starting clomid. My dr does not monitor while on clomid , and when I suggested the HSG he pretty much changed the subject.

sblm	I finally said something to my aunt whom I am extremely close with.
pfd	my issue is with how to share so people know what you are going through and understadn if I withdraw but how do I still maintain some privacy so not everyone knows when we are doing each cycle?
