Infertility after 3 Miscarriages

I am 35 and have been pregnant 3x and have miscarried all three. Over approx three years of testing and visiting doctors it has been determined that I have the MTHFR genetic defect (for which i’m on extra folate) and have a short luteal phase defect (not to mention that I have vulvodynia). Before all this was determined I typically had no problem becoming pregnant. Each time we conceived after the 1st or 2nd time of unprotected intercourse. But now it has been a year of baby-making and 1 IUI cycle (Jan ‘10) and have still not conceived. My husband’s sperm morphology was not the best, but for this first IUI his “washed” sperm numbered 32 million (which we were told was really good). I am a worrier and am totally concerned that something I am doing since we found out about my problems have caused my infertility. During our past year of infertility I started taking a baby aspirin daily, extra B6 and B12, Vitamin D, a Fish Oil supplement, Neevo (prenatal), and Deplin for the folate issue. Could any of these cause infertility issues? I realize it’s probably a plethora of problems (not to mention my age). Could clomid potentially cause infertility if it dries up cervical mucus?

Second question - my doctor has me on letrazole now instead of clomid. Is it better than clomid? Same success rates? I am so stressed over this first cycle not working. I also cannot imagine us paying thousands of dollars for IVF with my miscarriage history. Any advice?

Please help . . .

Do my HSG pictures appear normal to you?

I am wondering if you would be kind enough to take a quick look at the x-ray pictures taken during my hysterosalpingogram (HSG) and let me know your thoughts? My report states that both tubes are open, but I am looking for a second opinion on this. It appears as if my left tube is obstructed or behind an organ, possibly - making it hard to see the flow of dye / spill.

Does this look like a normal HSG to you? Based on the pictures, are you able to tell if my tubes look generally healthy? I am concerned about the slight widening of my right tube between the mid and fimbrial portion (it gets skinnier after it gets wider), and confirming that there is definitely spill from my left tube and that it doesn’t appear as if dye from my right tube leaked over towards the left.

My pictures can be found by selecting the link below:

http://img.makeupalley.com/1/8/0/6/1705761.JPEG

I had a laparoscopy before the HSG and they determined both tubes were blocked (right was opened with extra dye / pressure, left was blocked proximally or may have been in spasm). No scar tissue/adhesions and everything looked normal.

I sincerely appreciate your time and opinion.

Regards,

Lindsey Wolfe

Hello-

I am a healthy 33 year old women who has been TTC for a year. In that time, I have had 3 early losses, all before 7 weeks. Two were on natural cycles and one on my first round of Clomid 50mg. Prior to taking Clomid, I had a full work-up by my RE (day 3 tests, m/c panel, hysteroscopy, sonohysterogram, endomtetrial biopsy) which all came back normal. My husband and I were also karyotyped and that was normal. I responded well to Clomid as my progesterone was in the 30’s and there was no concern r.e. my lining.
I am to meet with my RE next week and am wondering if I should continue with the Clomid? Should I request more in-depth immune testing? Or is this all a case of bad luck as I am in my mid-thirties??

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated….Heather

What’s going on? What do I do next?

Hi everyone. I’m 29 and my husband is 30. In December, we consulted an RE. After bloodwork on me, sonograms, and an HSG, everything on my end looked great. My husband’s semen analysis wasn’t so great: motility was slightly low and morphology was only 4%. We were told not to worry. Doing IUI might help weed out the bad sperm. 3 failed IUIs even though I responded well to the clomid. So we were told not to worry because IVF would help. ICSI would take out the best sperm and match it up with the eggs. I was responding so well, they were watching me very closely because my estrogen was rising and the eggs were growing. We had a great ER: 12 eggs…all fertilized. On Day 3, we were told we’re moving to a day 5 transfer because all embryos were looking good. On Day 5, we were shocked to learn that all but 2 had already disintegrated. We put both in and nothing implanted. We also had nothing to freeze and would have to start all over again. We were told to try again, this time changing the meds. Same thing happened! I can’t imagine doing a 3rd ivf if it’s just going to happen again. I don’t know what to do. Has this happened to any of you? I just don’t understand what happens to the embryos between day 3 and 5 to make them disintegrate. It makes no sense. The RE suggested maybe to do PGD on the embryos and maybe DNA fragmentation on the sperm, but that would ultimately lead to donor sperm. I can’t imagine my children not being genetically mine and my husband’s. She doesn’t think it’s an egg issue because my hormones have always looked good. So I’m lost. I don’t know where to turn next or what to do. Has anyone been through a similar situation? Please help. I’m so depressed; I’m seeing a therapist and doing yoga/meditation.

Has anyone gone through the IVF cycle with no left over embryos to freeze after transfer? I’ve transferred 2 embryos in both of my cycles, and both times had nothing to freeze for FET.

I have been trying to get pregnant since last December. I have had two miscarriages since then. I keep having irregular periods with most being longer than 45 days. My last cycle was on June 24, 2010. My current ob/gyn just tells me it’s just bad luck. This month I’ve tried using an ovulation test kit and my LH didn’t surge until last Wednesday which was day 36 of my cycle. What should I do at this point?

Ok so I’m new here.. I am 27 years old and still childless.
Medical History-
3 Confirmed Miscarriages, plus about 4 suspected 2001(loss at est. 9 weeks).2004(loss at est.9weeks).2007(unknown) on confirmed
2 D&C’s Due to above 2001/2004
Abnormal pap in 2002
several biopsy’s due to cervical dysplasia 2002/2003
CIN levels 2 &3 that led to 1 LEEP Procedure, and 1 Cone 2003/2004
Clear from 2004 until this June 2010
PCOS diagnosed 2002,under control
Scarred Cervix.
2007- obgyn tested for causes of repeated losses- was told something about abnormal gene that effects how the body process folic acid.
June 2010 yearly pap returned abnormal- was told it was an askme (sp?) or cin1 told nothing I could do except repeat the pap in Dec. 2010.

During the time I was receiving treatments for the pre-cancerous cells until a month or so after the cone I experienced bleeding/spotting after sex. Since that time I have not had it .. until now. Spotted after sex, stopped and hour later.
Currently I have not had my monthly and am about 2 and 1/2 weeks overdue.. neg. urine pg test,a week ago. stress as possible cause.history of irregular periods.Went through a week of non stop nausea and vomiting ,could not keep anything down. Still having slight nausea ,no vomiting though. Considered a virus @ er.

My question is how possible is it for me to be pregnant or to become pregnant in the future with or without infertility treatments?and Do I have any other options on the abnormal pap at this time other than to wait? I need answers.I desperately want to become a mother, and am open to adoption if needed, but I need to be realistic and I need to know the truth. I don’t currently have medical insurance, and cannot afford to see a specialist if I do not absolutely need/have to. If my chances of becoming pregnant are nil then I need to come to terms with it before I can accept adoption as my only option. Someone PLEASE help me. Thank you
