I live in georgia and had surgery back in December. I was told that both tubes were completely blocked and my tubes were removed. I am 30 years old,no kids, married, and my husband wants kids. The Doctor I saw only take payments up front of $10,000. Is there any where you know of that excepts a percentage up front and than payments per month?

Dear kawri27:
I would recommend contacting the good folks here at the AFA to see if they can give you more specific information about local programs.  Another idea is to consider participating in a research study.  Currently we have a study on egg freezing and for qualified applicants, much of the ivf cycle is free.  However, we are in NJ, perhaps there might be an appropriate program that is local to you.  Another good resource is RESOLVE - also a national patient advocacy group - http://www.resolve.org.  They have local chapters that might have more specific information about programs near you.  INCIID, another infertility patient support group actually has a grant program - http://www.inciid.org.  In addition, you may just want to call around - check out http://www.srei.org for a listing by state of fellowship trained reproductive endocrinologists.
Hope this helps
Very best of luck,

Dear Dr. Chen,

I found this blog and was very interested in your post. My husband passed away in 2007 from cancer, not before we were able to freeze some sperm in Phoenix, Arizona. While we were thinking to use the sperm when he is through with his treatments it unfortunately never got to this point. Before he passed we decided to have a baby regardless of him not being able to raise the child together with me. You can just imagine the emotional torture I went through during this time. Now, two years later I am trying to get everything moving. I visited a clinic in Malvern, PA and had all my tests done. Everything looks good on my end. Unfortunately my husbands sperm is not very active and my doc told me that I will have to do the IVF. This brings tremendous financial pressure with it. I am still trying to sell the house I am living in to try to support myself. I have a good paid job but the medical bills from my husband are still piling up even he is deceased.

With that in mind I was wondering if you could give me more information about the clinical study you are doing at the moment and if I would be eligible for it.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
