Hello

After 2 unsuccessful IUI’s, we had an IVF cycle. My reports are normal, we have male factor problem, but not severe. During the IVF cycle, I got 16 eggs retrieved, 12 matured, 9 fertilised (with ICSI). On day 5 we had 9 good blastocysts. Doctor transferred one with no problems with transfer. But my pregnancy test was negative. Also non of the 8 blastocysts could be freeze.
We are planning to go for another IVF. What are the factors I should be considering during my second IVF? All of the fertilised eggs were growing good until day 5. But nothing lived to freeze and my IVF cycle failed as well. Does that mean I should repeat the same cycle again?

Thank You.

Dear Smile:
The fact that you had a good response to the drugs and good fertilization and what sounds like good embryo development are all good factors and you should have a good chance of success.  This is a complicated question that cannot be completely answered via email.  You should sit down with your doctor and review the entire cycle.  Factors to consider are your age, details of embryo development (did you really have blastocysts or were the embryos just alive on day 5 - it is a little puzzling as to why none of the blastocysts were frozen - most people do not have freezing if you have an IVF program that is selective about freezing, but even programs that are selective about freezing will freeze most blasts), any uterine issues, etc.
You could certainly consider transferring 2 embryos next time instead of one, if you are willing to take the risk of twins.  Sometimes a second opinion can be helpful as well.  The folks here at the AFA can help you find a reputable program to obtain a second opinion.
Bottom line is that you look good on paper, and should have a good chance of being successful at some point.
Very best of luck,
