We have been ttc for 2 years. Recently we discovered that my husband has severe morphology issues, almost 0%Kruger, while count and motility are great.  What are our chances with IUI vs IVF w/ICSI.  Is ICSI safe for the eggs?  If the first IVF cycle doesnt work, how long do we wait until we try again?  Thank you.

Dear Bfriend09:
ICSI will probably work better.  In the hands of an experienced lab, ICSI is safe for the eggs.  Morphology can be variable and very subjective, it is important that the analysis is performed by a fertility lab that is experienced in IVF and ICSI.  If there are not other issues and you are less than 35 years old, it may be reasonable to attempt IUI with injectable gonadotropins first prior to attempting IVF.  This is a discussion that you should have in detail with your RE.  Most people need at least 1 month to recover before attempting another IVF cycle.
Very best of luck to you,
Serena Chen, MD
