I’m an umarried woman with a partner in the military. I am forced by DADT to continue to label myself single, even with my doctors, for my partner’s professional safety. We want to have a baby soon because waiting until she’s out of the military is undesirable to us both. It’s impossible to know when she’ll be out because of her deployment schedule. So I will continue to publically label myself as single until it happens.
So not only will I need articial insemination but I have PCOS and desire fertility drugs to help ensure pregnancy during insemination. Finding a doctor that will be able and willing to do both in the state of Georgia is next to impossible, whether I present myself as single or with a partner.
I also found on the HRC website that Georgia’s insemination laws discriminate against both GLBT and single women. So I think I might have to cross state lines for a doctor.
“Georgia law only takes into consideration the use of the donor insemination procedure by married couples.
The law presumes children conceived by artificial insemination are born to married couples. Both spouses must have consented in writing to the use and administration of the procedure.”
How do I go about finding a doctor that’s willing to assist us? What should our first steps be? And I’m currently comparing health insurance companies. Is there something I should look for in a company or plan? Any guidance at all would be greatly appreciated.
