Hi. My last IUI cycle started on August 31, 2008. My IUI Cycle was cancelled last Sunday (August 10, 2008 - CD11) due to four “large” follicles measuring 14 (left ovary), 13, (right ovary), 13 (right ovary), 15 (right ovary). The RE stated that we should not BD for 7-10 days. My question is: my cycle length is 39 days long; could I still ovulate and conceive - possibly multiples? Will the follicles shrink since the hormone injections (Gonal-F) have stopped? Do we need to wait another 8-9 days to be safe? (We are ok with the thought of multiples but worry about the health the of the babies.) Thanks.

Dear Janelle:
It is not clear to me why the cycle was cancelled - concern about hyperstimulation? high order multiples?
Please define “BD” for me - is this a term for sexual intercourse?
Did you take hCG?
If you did not take hCG, the follicles should gradually decrease in size.
If you are on clomid, though, you may ovulate on your own.  If you are on injectable gonadotropins, then there is a 10 to 20% chance you will ovulate on your own without the hCG injection.
I would recommend calling your doctor to ask him/her these questions, since s/he knows more about your cycle and therefore can give you more accurate advice.
