Because you are working with a lawyer and ask about adopting from within the U.S., I am guessing you plan to adopt an infant domestically, rather than internationally or through the domestic foster care system. Hopefully, you have chosen a lawyer who specializes in adoption, and who is a professional member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys.
First and foremost, I would encourage you to talk with your lawyer about your options. As your service provider, he or she is an important resource whose job is to help you through the entire process. Your lawyer can explain the circumstances under which you will need another professional for additional services.
To answer your question, yes, there might be a pregnant woman anywhere in the country who’ll become interested in what you have to offer a child, though it’s also possible a woman from your home state who’s contemplating an adoption plan will choose to place her baby with you. Most people work with their adoption agencies or attorneys to develop some sort of outreach to prospective birthmothers nationwide.
As for “good states” from which to adopt, each of the states has different standards, and if you adopt a baby from outside of Tennessee your lawyer will help make sure that you meet certain requirements for interstate adoptions. Depending upon any connections you make in other states, you have plenty of time to learn more.
Good luck with your adoption process!
